Interview questions you can expect

Each business has their own requirements, but they all have some questions that apply to most companies. To find out what they need to know about you, they will ask questions. Some may ask just about the basics while others go into more detail.


Remember:

  • Interviewers could ask what sounds like the same question twice. It has a twist to check on honesty.
  • They don’t ask irrelevant questions. Even "How was your weekend", is being asked for a reason.
  • Listen carefully to the question, and give a short and honest answer.


Here are the most commonly asked questions:


Phone Interview

  1. Our recruitment process may include verbal reference checks, pre- employment medical assessment, criminal record check, drug- and or alcohol tests as well as a MOJ check. Are you happy to proceed?
  2. What is your experience in the cleaning industry?
  3. Could you please give me an overview of your last position and main duties performed?
  4. Why did you leave your last job?
  5. Do you have any other commitments?
  6. What is your immigration status?
  7. How will you travel to and from work?   


Personal Profile

  1. What do you do in your free time?
  2. What are your strengths?
  3. What are your weaknesses?
  4. Are you on any form of medication?
  5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?


Health and Safety

  1. We are a very Safety oriented Company. Can you name some safety issues you would need to be aware of in a cleaning environment? 
  2. Have you ever witnessed fellow employees or a staff member taking safety shortcuts or bending safety rules? What action did you take?
  3. If you were not familiar with the use of a specific chemical, what should you do prior to using it?


Behavioural & Situational

  1. How do you deal with pressure?
  2. What will you do if you have two tasks that need to be completed at the same time?
  3. What was the biggest challenge in your previous position, and how did you overcome this?


Teamwork

  1. We’ve all worked with troublesome colleagues before. Tell me about the worst person you have worked with and what was the outcome?
  2. What three attributes do you think makes a good team member? (Or good employee)


General

  1. What makes you the right person for this position?
  2. Can I talk to your referees?
  3. If I were to ask your previous supervisor/manager, what type of person you were, what would they tell me?
  4. Have you completed any work related courses?


Finally

  1. Are there any questions you would like to ask about the Company or the position?
  2. If your application is successful, when will you be able to start?
  3. I will advise you about the outcome within the next two weeks
  4. Thank you for attending this interview
